Latest News From the Chairman
Dear Members, Just a round-up of events to remind you why SCMM's un-like other clubs.
Lately we've had an excellent talk covering all aspects of "Editing The Professional Way" with Gordon Hunt. How many others could have supplied funny footage, or 'get out of that' answers to editing problems? We were extremely lucky Gordon volunteered to give the show. Nice one, Gordon!
The Hot Chips & Clips Night proved slightly problematic, with some missing orders, due to the Yenton Fish shop, not Grahams' or Keith's kind efforts. But I managed to round-up the missing meals, and at least we had enough clips, even if they weren't all the hot summer movies, which I'd hoped would warm a cold night.
Then I'd like to send a hearty congratulations to Jill Lampert, who perhaps gave our club members one of the best nights ever, with her talk & demo' on styles of animation.
She followed this up with the chance for everyone to 'have a go' in the second half. We'd not had this opportunity since Super 8 film, when we'd had a night round at the Thomas's house, Bellwell Lane about 20 years ago! Thanks Jill, great fun! She'll be taking her show on the road, shortly to Derby Moviemakers.
As Gordon mentioned, if you applied by email, you could visit the BVE Show for broadcasters, Earls Court 2 London, 16~18th Feb '10. He went down on the Tuesday & I visited the next day, to be treated to the countries best equipment demos' & talks by professionals of all the movie making fields. The most surprising fact that cropped up concerned firms involved with BskyB, the broadcasters.
If you supply them programmes, you're obligated to keep back-ups on Blu Ray Discs, as leaving material in a hard drive on a shelf, could get you sued, if the drive proves faulty!
Likewise, our club's had a bit of luck, in that Roger Lawrie’s discovered the Beta tape of "The Scout Jamboree of '57", & I've got a full set of the club's winning movies from the start of the Millennium, from our ex-mate John Foster. He'd wanted us to put together the Sutton Spotlight clips. This is the last call if you shot a subject, so I can make a disc. Email me now, please!
Listen to this. Hear's another piece of news. Talking of Millennium reminds me of the Interclubs Competition, held annually by Nuneaton, called The Millennium Trophy, coming up 4:30pm Saturday 10th April '10 at St. James Church Hall, Church Lane, Nuneaton CV10 0EX. You'd be welcomed & the buffets great. Haven't picked our entry yet!

Nowadays making films isn’t about gluing clips together, but using the humble computer, so our Patrick Sprague will show us the newest tricks.

All the way from Stoke, is coming the insanely funny John Draycott, with more vampire gore, stunt work & home-made props that rival the professionals.
